Savannah and Charleston

Before I start this post thank you to everyone who left me such kind thoughts and heart felt wishes you are all amazing people and the reason I love to blog! Thank you so much for your care and support! I have missed you and I can’t wait to get back in the swing of things!

My mom and I went to Savannah and Charleston right when I started winter break and it was awesome! We spent two days in each city and even though it rained or was cloudy 99% of the time we still loved it, neither of us had been before. Savannah had the most beautiful old homes in the historic district as did Charleston although most not as old because they were destroyed in the Civil War, where as Savannah wasn’t. Thank you Sherman!

In Savannah we ate at Paula Deen’s restaurant The Lady and Son’s, and I don’t want to disappoint anyone but it wasn’t that great. Apparently it has become very touristy and the food reflected that :( bummer. We also took a historic inn tour of bed and breakfasts in restored historic homes that had decorated for the holidays. Which was AWESOME! You all would have loved it I would have taken pictures but we were asked not to.  We also visited Hilton Head Island just to say we’ve been there and walked on the beach.

In Charleston we visited Fort Sumter which I enjoyed because I love history.  We also visited a plantation, Middleton Place, which all that was left was a guest house but the gardens are beautiful and one of the oldest in America.  All in all it was a great trip and I love the south! I wish I could own one of the beautiful old homes there with the amazing gardens and huge mossy oak trees, I almost died of joy. The neatest part about Savannah was the beautiful little squares, 22 in all, situated throughout the city every couple of blocks that had been there since the colony was established in the 1700s. They are beautiful and I got pictures of a few. Ok time to share pictures!

It looks like you had a blast, Allison. My sister used to live in Charleston, and I love it. There are still many original homes left in Charleston. I don't know who the tour guide was, but Sherman didn't burn it all to the ground. ;-) LOL! My sister lived in the carriage house for many years of a house that belonged to Admiral Lord Nelson (I think that's correct as memory serves me). Her carriage house was in Ansonbourough and was often on tours a million moons ago.

I love Savannah, too. Sorry to hear about Paula's restaurant. There's a wonderful inn there called something like the Pink House, and it has a good restaurant if you ever decide to return. Their she-crab soup is marvelous! Wish you had made it further down the coast to St. Augustine. We have Nights of Lights, and you would have loved that. Additionally, we are the oldest city in the United States (continuously occupied European settlement as we are forced to say because Pensacola is a smidge older but was wiped out in a plague). We're about three hours south of Savannah.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures of your trip with us! I have always wanted to visit the south and see those spanish moss covered trees in person. I love to watch old movies and they always seem to have those gorgeous trees in the background. Bummer about Paula Deen! I'm sure it was fun anyway. I am so glad to see you are smiling again...keep your chin up as you are one special gal. :)

Love the dog. My girlfriend has one named Duchess and they could be twins!!!!

What a wonderful trip, Allison! My aunt and uncle visited Savannah a few years ago and wasn't too impressed with the Lady and Sons restaurant either. Like you said, too touristy. But at least you can say you've been there and tried it! I so enjoyed your pictures, it's the next best thing to being there! Have a safe, healthy, and wonderful New Year. Talk to you soon!

Oh Sweetie, I just scrolled down and read your last post. I am so sorry. I know I don't have to tell you, but you deserve someone who appreciates, loves, and respects you. Don't fret though, not all men are cads! Hope this New Year provides you with a fresh start and new beginnings. Hugs, Lorna

Hey you...I am so thrilled that you are back...I have missed you too!!!

I am so sorry to hear of your break up...I have just finished nursing my precious daughter through her terrible break up. I am just about convinced that boys suck. I don't think they understand the devestation their actions cause!!! She is finally dating again and living life but I think she still has little phases of sadness. I hope you are doing well and getting out in the world and having some fun. Time is the only thing that helps...I'm afraid.

Looks like you and your Mom had a wonderful trip!!! I love both places you visited...two of my favorites on the planet!!!

I hope the New Year brings you great joy and happiness!!!
XOXO
Cathy

Allison,
So glad you came by...goodness! You followed in our footsteps...Savannah and Charleston are two of our very favorite places to visit. We've eaten at Paula's twice...once when we carried visitors from Wales...the food is so-so...we visit Hilton Head...we have a niece who lives there and we've been to Middleton Place. I bought Blackwatch Hollyhock vintage seed there and each time they bloom I'm carried back there in my memories.

If ever you have the opportunity please visit Madison Georgia. It's the antebellum town spared by Sherman on his march to the sea. Gorgeous homes and beautiful bed and breakfasts.

You are the winner in the boyfriend situation...

Wishing you a blessed 2010...Betty

I am SO envious. I have always been fascinated with these two cities and if I could pick any city in the US to live it would be one of these. I think I read too many romance novels when I was younger where most of them took place in the south!

I hope you are feeling better about your situation and that the New Year brings you all good thinks Alli!

I was so happy when I checked and you had posted something. I kept checking and there was nothing and then tonight I thought...she wrote...so..perhaps she is posting once again...AND THERE YOU were!
:)
Needless to say I am delighted! What a beautiful young woman you are, Allison! You can certainly tell you belong to your Mom! :) I am so happy you had a good time.
I admit to wishing I could visit Paula Deen's restaurant. I always get grand idea's in my head of how something will be. Now if I ever get back there and do get to visit I won't be disappointed. :)
Your pictures are beautiful! What IS there about red brick that makes things so cozy looking. I would like to live in a red brick home someday. :)
You are really alright? I hope so! I think of you Allison. Your Mom looks like a wonderful woman and mother.
Hugs and love,
Mona

Gorgeous photos! I've heard that quite a bit about The Lady and Sons! Sad. But what a cute blog!

I agree about the Lady & Sons. I've eaten there several times when visiting. If you're ever in Georgia, my family found a place called The Blue Willow Inn (In Social Circle) and they even have a cookbook by the same name. Oh my goodness!!!! Now THAT's a great place!!!!! Some of the best collard greens and dumplins, and fried chicken I've ever eaten!!! LOL. My family even routes their trip through Georgia to stop there, and The Dillard House! (a virtual eat-a-thon!!! ROFL!!!)

Enjoyed your blog!
