Pumpkin Cookies in April?

Yes! LOL So Wednesday I didn’t have any class and my friend Sara and I went to lunch and then I took her to my favorite little store in Ocean Beach called Vignettes. While we were there we checked out all the other antique stores and there was a street faire going on! It’s almost exactly the same as the one they have at UCSD every Tuesday! It had a lot of the same produce and food vendors! Well while we were there we found an awesome booth with awesome dessert goodies! Mini pies, cookies galore, cakes, and tarts! Then we found a box of reject pumpkin cookies! LOL They called them “broken cookies” they seemed more like day old to me but whatever they were still yummy! So we got a box of 17 cookies for $3.50 when they were selling two cookies for $1.50. Yay we split the cost and the cookies and all was well. I don’t really have food at my place, or money for food (even though I bought cookies LOL) so I couldn’t actually make anything for Recipe Exchange Thursday hosted by Natalie at Just A Gal blog. But I still really wanted to participate LOL. So I am going to share pictures of my pumpkin cookies and a similar recipe that I have had saved but never tried LOL. Totally backwards huh? And I’ll share some pictures of our day and antiques!

So these were them LOL. They looked more like iced scones and had a similar texture but they called them cookies I called them yummy whatever :) Here is a recipe I have for iced pumpkin cookies that is really similar.

DOUGH:

1 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1 c. pumpkin
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon or to taste
1 c. raisin

Cream together first three ingredients. Mix well remaining ingredients. Add 1 cup raisins. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.

ICING:

3 tbsp. butter
4 tsp. milk
1/2 c. brown sugar

Cook until well dissolved. Cool and add 1 cup powdered sugar and 3/4 teaspoon vanilla. Ice cookies when cool.

I know pumpkin cookies in April is weird, but Sara and I like weird! LOL Just kidding, we just love pumpkin whenever wherever LOL.

This is the back of all the tents of the street faire LOL. All the vendors face out onto either of the sidewalks and we were standing in the middle. Yah there were lamas at the street faire LOL. Funny! If you keep following those palms until the last one down there then you will fall into the ocean. You can see it and smell it as you’re walking around it’s nice :)

This is a view looking up the street and I was standing in the exact spot where I got in a hit and run accident a couple months ago! Yah the guy backed into me and took off in the direction the black SUV is headed.  Ugh that is the only bad thing about Ocean Beach it is the worst place to drive, people are so rude and such bad drivers.

Here’s Sara after we got the pumpkin cookies and just spotted lamas LOL. Now I’ll share some pictures of thingies I liked in the stores :)

Hi Allison,
These do look yummy and I just love pumpkin, just not pumpkin pie :0!
I'll have to try them over the weekend.
O.B. is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world!!! There used t be a hole in the wall diner called the Magic Chef that made the most divine Greek Omelet. If it's still there you should try one!!! And have you been to Extraordinary Desserts next to Balboa Park...BEST COFFEE IN THE WORLD not to mention the to die for pastries. Oh I want to go there right now!!!!
OK, enough reminiscing, I hope you have a lovely day in that beautiful city.

xoxo Cori

The blue and white postage stamp quilt...yes, that one!! I wonder how much it was?? And that little red chair! I LOVE children's toys to decorate with. Probably because it is all I had for years ..and year. And YEARS!!
I have not been to Ocean Beach forever! Wow..I began going there as a child..no..a baby. But as a teenager we had great times there..then it started to change..
Now it sounds like it is great once again. One day perhaps I will see it again.

When I commented earlier I hadn't noticed your message about La Jolla. I lived there for almost 20 years...10 as a child ( I even went to La Jolla High School ) and 10 as a young married girl. My 2 older children were born there and we go back 2-3 times a year. We stay at the beach club every July and have for the last 17 years. We LOVE it there and miss it everyday!!!

My husband's best friend attended USD and still lives out there in Rancho Santa Fe.

You are a lucky girl!!! Enjoy the beautiful weather...catch a sunset or 2 for me!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!
XOXO
